Hey folks -
I just did this and it honestly took 5 mins!
The Saturday closure of JFK is up for a vote in committee at the
Board of Supes TODAY AT ONE O'CLOCK. The staff for each of these
Supes are sitting by the phones tallying callin support.
Just call these 5 numbers and say you want to "put in your support
for the Healthy Saturdays initiative." THATS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO
If I felt like making conversation I added that "its just a six month
trial, so why is this so hard?"
EACH CONVERSATION TOOK ABOUT 30 Seconds!
Sup. Michaela Alioto-Pier (Dist. 2) - (415) 554-7752
Sup. Bevan Dufty (Dist. 8) - (415) 554-6968
Sup. Sean Elsbernd (Dist. 7) - (415) 554-6516
Sup. Fiona Ma (Dist. 4) - (415) 554-7460
Sup. Sophie Maxwell (Dist. 10) - (415) 554-7670
You can even call Gavin's office & say you want him to support the
Healthy Sat Initiative - they will transfer you to another person &
he'll take the tally.
Mayor Gavin Newsom - (415) 554-6141

or a few talking points:
This is one of the few places in the city for car-free recreational
space. It should be expanded from just 1 day/week to all weekend.
Healthy Saturdays is an important way to encourage more physical
activity and better health among San Franciscans, especially kids,
who face increasing health risks because of lack of activity.
This is only a 6-month trial. Try it, and see how it works. This is a
reasonable approach.
There is plenty of car access already in the Park - there's an 800-
car garage, and all of the other roads are open to cars except for
this 1.5-mile stretch of JFK Drive.
The Park is for people, not cars. If this city is serious about
providing open space for recreation and retreats from the city, this
plan is an essential step.
