Better Off Dead (1985)

Starring: John Cusack, David Ogden Stiers (AKA Major Charles Emerson  
Winchester III, from MASH) and Kim Darby.
As if being in High School in the 1980s wasn't bad enough, Lane Meyer  
loses his girlfriend because, according to her, "I think it'd be in  
my best interest if I dated somebody more popular. Better looking."  
That hurts worse than a Flock of Seagulls song.

Anyway, poor Lane does the Noble Thing, and decides to kill himself  
but of course is repeatedly thwarted in most humiliating fashion. He  
finally meets a French beauty called Monique and falls for her, but  
of course would rather be with the heartless wench who crushed him in  
the first place, all the while braving crazy parents, junkie  
neighbors, funny asian accents, and of course the ubiquitous creepy  
math teacher. It's just like being in high school again!
