SOCIAL: German Film Festival BERLIN & BEYOND Jan 10-16, 2008 @ Castro

Hello Socialites:

January is just around the corner and for the 13th time the German Film
Festival Berlin & Beyond 2008 is on in SF at the Castro Theatre. Follow the

Besides a selection of independent and documentary movies from Germany,
Austria and Switzerland, they are showing two internationally successful
german movies that I highly recommend to you.

"The Lives of Others" won the Academy Awards 2007 for best foreign film and
is definitely a must see (in case you missed the screenings earlier this
year). It's showing on Sat Jan 12 at 10pm.

The second one "The Edge of Heaven" by Fatih Akin is Germany's Oscar bid for
2008. Fatih Akin is a turkish-german filmmaker and a rising star in german
cinema. His movie will be shown on opening night Thur Jan 10 at 8pm which I
suggest getting tickets to in advance (it does sell out).

I've seen a bunch of the independent movies there in recent years and
they've been excellent, but I have a hard time recommending one in
