OK OK.   "UNCLE" already!!   Eric's inap app won me over, and I don't even commute!
Seems the iPhone is the winner!
I'll just need to sell my car to pay the monthly ;~)
ah, the price of being a gadget geek!

i LOVE my new iPhone, and it loves me back.  i know it does.

favorite new app i found?  iNap - it wakes you up based on GPS if you fall asleep on the train so you won't miss your stop.

A couple of other follow ups:
Karen:  One other thing to be aware of is that smartphone plans tend to be more expensive than dumbphone plans because you have to pay for data (which means internet service) as well as phone service.  There are various technical reasons why this is stupid, but nonetheless it is how all carriers structure their rate plans.

Jen:  From my reading of the AT&T site, for 95 dollars a month, you'd get 900 free minutes and 200 TXT messages, or $105 for 900 free minutes & 1500 TXT messages, I'd get the $105.  You'll TXT even more on an iPhone.  So it sounds like this is about the same as you'd get with a Blackberry on Verizon ("about $100. That includes 900 anytime minutes and 1000 text.").  Also your Blackberry on Verizon would be a pain to sync with your Mac I think, whereas the iPhone plays well with Mac & Windows.

Check the rates here: http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/specials/iphone-info.jsp

Mike:  I'd say it depends on how big your fingers are, some people say they can't two finger type, some say they can just great.  I can't, but I'm pretty happy and quite fast with 1 finger.

Karen, thanks for bring this topic up because I too want to get a new phone.
The thing that stops me from getting an iPhone is I keep hearing that the plans are a lot more expensive then the Verizon plan I have now. If I was to get a blackberry my monthly fee would go up $30 for the data package, which would take me to about $100. That includes 900 anytime minutes and 1000 text. Can anyone say how the iPhone compairs to that? It looked to me that the package that would bring me to about $100 would only be 450 anytime minutes and would include no texts.

     Hi All,

It seems time for me to get a new phone.  My current, very very old phone, that doesn't even text or have call waiting, is dying a slow death.  So, I'm looking for new technology.  A phone that lets me check email, and maybe even internet, and maybe even GPS!  Is that too much for a gal to ask?  I am an admitted Luddite when it comes to cell phone technology, so I'm looking to the list for help.  Any recommendations?
