SOCIAL: Palak promoting the Indian Musical Play - SULTANA DAKU - Last 2 Days of Discounted Tickets :)

Dear Friends of Deep and mine (I know doesnt sound right grammatically),
I am Palak. I am sure weve met if nowhere else..then on the dance floor! if
not Hi!
I am usually silent in the social emails but i read most of them...i am
getting into it slowly...
so this is my contribution to the Social for now.
I am promoting a play - An Indian Folk Musical - a story of a 'Daku' -
dacoit (i learnt that this is not an american word) - so someone who
robs/kills people for money...lives like a vagabond...in the
jungles/forests. His name is Sultana. So the play is called 'Sultana Daku'.
He was one of the most notorious dacoit in earlier times. This is a piece of
fiction created around him.

Why am i promoting it -

1. It is a 'nautanki' - a form of Indian theater that is even hard to find
in India

2. Our music director and cast comprises of very very talented and
hardworking singers and actors

3. It is extremely dynamic, aesthetically pleasing and an experience you
dont want to miss.

4. Its not that expensive - 15$  if you get your tix before March 7th (thats
today!!! :( ) if not march 20th.

5. It has two shows in hayward CalState - close to sf...and one in redwood
city (attached flyer has the details)

6. I am in it! (ok thats really not the selling point...coz my role is
really small ..but i do what i love the most in the play - i dance!!!!! -
but if anyone wants to come to see me on stage..great !! :)


we will have synopsis for our non hindi speaking friends since its entirely
in 'hindi'

Sultana Daku is one of the most popular Nautankis. The confrontation between
the admirable underclass hero and the agents of a colonial government are
woven together with everlasting music, comic interludes, songs and poetic
verses.

*Guru :* *Pundit. Ram Dayal Sharma*

A renowned singer, composer, actor, writer, director, and music teacher,
Pandit Ram Dayal Sharma is the present guru (teacher) of the famous
"Swami-Khera" Gharana (traditional music school) of Nautanki, Raasleela,
Swang, Rasiya, Ramlila, Bhajans, and Katha Vachan (folk music genres of
India). He is a visiting professor and examiner of music and folk theatre at
the *National School of Drama, India,* and the University of Delhi. His
creations have been performed at venues all over the world such as Theater
Royal London, Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, and Sangeet Natak
Akademy.

A practicing performer, writer, and director of Nautanki and Swang--folk
musical theatre genres of north India, Dr. Sharma has performed in more than
100 Nautanki productions. He has also directed and produced many films on
folk music, and social change in India. He is currently an Assistant
Professor at California State University-Fresno. He has written extensively,
and presented numerous guest lectures and conference papers on the role of
folk performances in the contemporary world.
