SOCIAL: disenfranchisement lawsuits? criminal charges?

Hi all,

Has anyone noticed, as I have, that the mainstream media are reporting many
incidents of disenfranchisement tactics, mostly aimed at people who are
likely to vote Dem, but have are leaving out any mention of the illegality
of such acts and what law enforcement is doing about it? Just yesterday a
piece in the Oakland Tribune used the term "dirty tricks," as though these
activities were simply bad form. The article
(prob off the wire since the Trib has no natl reporters) didn't say anything
about what is being done to stop these activities and/or find out who was
responsible. Everything I have read takes an attitude of "oh this is
terrible but it is the current political reality, and what can you do
anyway?" Doesn't the Voting Rights Act carry any weight? I know there have
been some disenfranchisement lawsuits in various states, but we never hear
about the outcome of those or about people being charged criminally.

Frustratedly,

Erin
