New York Times profile of statistics nerd Nate Silver, who founded
fivethirtyeight.com. Fivethirtyeight was an outlier among the
pollsters from early on, projecting Obama winning by a huge margin
(348.6 electoral votes, the result of a probability split of the North
Carolina votes between Obama and McCain. He turned out to be quite
close, but underestimated the Obama win (Indiana and one of the
proportionally-allocated Nebraska electoral votes went to Obama,
giving him 365 votes).
Anyhow, happy to see progressive nerds in the limelight.
