SOCIAL: International Moving Companies?

Jennie, we'll miss you here in 'Murca!

From the way you write your email, it sounds like you've rejected the
idea of just selling your stuff and replacing it in Australia. Can I
humbly suggest taking another look at that? Moving the contents of a
household internationally isn't just an Allied Van Lines kinda thing:
you're basically going into the import/export business. Australia
will assess import duties on everything you ship, and getting it all
through the bureaucracy of customs will be complex and time-
consuming. My brother spent six months in London, and did not get to
enjoy the use of the trunk of clothes he shipped until three months
into his stay; his trunk was stuck in customs that long. By then he
had replaced all his clothes.

Another thing to keep in mind: the Australian dollar has been sinking
against the U.S. dollar. This summer, an American dollar bought A
$1.05 or so, but now it buys A$1.50. So everything in Australia is on
sale!

Hope this is helpful--
Brian
