One of the people that speaks frequently about this is Mark McKinnen - he
was at the Kennedy School when I was there a few years ago. He was one of
Bush's chief media strategists and he frequently talked (formally and
informally so you might be able to google him) about how much the Bush
campaign LOVED it when the media/pundits made fun of Bush's
goofy/dumb/idiotic statements b/c it got the base going and didn't seem to
affect the undecided.

related to this, but a little to the side, does anyone have a link to an
article/editorial talking about the dangers of concentrating humor and wrath
on palin?  as i recall it talked about how it could have the effect of
alienating that large number of people in the country who identify with her?
i think it was in the times.  i wanted to read it again, since obviously i
can't remember it too well (and if this is what's happening to me
at....well....the age i am, imagine what mccain can't remember!)
