SOCIAL: phone upgrade

I recently received an iphone from work (one of my few perqs).

I'm not a very techy wired type person-I dislike texting, twitter, etc. (I
like to experience what I'm doing rather than document it or look for
something better), for the most part I listen to vinyl and CDs, not mp3s,
and I will probably always have a paper address book as well as an
electronic one-however, it was VERY handy the other day to be able to Google
for the number and location of a store while I was out and about, and then
call said store with a single finger press of the Google map.

Pros: 1. above-mentioned convenience of web to phone

2. camera (first one I've had) creates good looking pics.

3. pretty display

4. you can buy a very durable rubber cover (should make the phone fairly
resilient in the face of frequent dropping)

5. lots of email and music features that will hopefully work at some point
(see problems I list under cons)

Cons: 1. The phone fidelity on speaker is lousy, particularly if you are not
in a quiet place. I haven't tried it with the headphones yet because my boss
can't find them (he gave me the phone he bought for himself and didn't want
because of the audio quality-he's on the phone all day and this one just
didn't cut it for him). We'll see whether the headphones improve the audio
significantly and whether the mic works ok. It will be quite inconvenient,
though, to always have to pull them out to make a call.

2. I haven't had great coverage. I couldn't bring up the web at SFO the
other day, and the phone service is spotty at best at my home (as was
Sprint/Nextel).

3. WiFi reception seems to be wonky. It says it has a strong signal at home,
but then won't connect to ITunes because there's no WiFi. Thus I haven't
been able to download my address book from my PC, which can only be done
thru ITunes somehow. So this important feature is completely unavailable to
me.

4. I'm still not competent with the touchpad. Sometimes I have to try 3 or 4
times before the touch is registered. I don't know whether that is an angle
of pressure issue or what. It could just be me.

5. I still haven't figured out how to set up smtp, so I can't send any mail.
The settings I use on my computers aren't working, and I haven't had time to
try to figure out why.

6. Not all web tools are available when browsing on this device. I tried to
listen to a radio station online and wasn't able to. Could be a safari
issue, not sure. Would be nice if another browser were an option since a lot
of websites don't support safari.

I'm not sure whether to call ATT or Apple for support on the problems I
mentioned. but will get to that at some point.

dear social,
i know its election time and i am keeping myself uptodate with everything!
however i also need a new phone:because of various logical and illlogical
reasons like:

i am eligible for an upgrade, i cant hear very clearly, my phone takes its
own random breaks, it sometimes saves numbers and sometimes does not :(

iphone is an attractive gadget ..but in these tough economic times and with
the rate at which i drop my phones..i am not sure if it works for me! but i
am still thinking..
at&tis my carrier.so if you can take a moment and tell me which phones you
have and whether or not you are happy or not will help me make a good
decision!
