Though from our friend Robert, the possibility that we might want to ignore
her....

from a guy I know who runs a polling consulting firm and knows what he's
talking about.

I hate to be the curmudgeon in the group, but it seems like all the fuss
over Sarah Palin is designed to get voters to obsess over her ability to
jump in and be VP rather than focus on the issues. She's an easy target, but
a bulls-eye that going to lead to a series of misguided political shots if
not left alone.
It's obvious that whatever the leftists in this group think of her, she
definitely has appeal among potential Republican-leaning women. And keep in
mind it is this group of suburban white women – with fears of terrorism on
their minds – that got George W. re-elected in 2004. It wasn't religious
evangelicals. You can check with Tipple X if you don't believe me.
McCain has shown great savvy in choosing a running mate who can win this
swing demographic, while simultaneously appealing to religious
conservatives. The more that the media - and the masses – continue to focus
on Palin's "experience," the more "experience" will become a dominant issue
between McCain and Obama, and the latter will come out on the short end of
that stick.
I think the Obama campaign – and Obama supporters – should drop any dialogue
about Palin. Let it go. Remember Dan Quail? The more they talk about her,
the more the race becomes a personality contest and less a contest over the
issues. If it's an election about issues, Obama has a chance to win. The
more it's a personality contest, the greater an Ex-POW and a "hot"
soccer-mom of a son fighting in Iraq carry the day.
Stop talking about Palin and renew your efforts to talk about McCain's
upside-down position on the issues. Biden will put Palin in her place during
the VP debates. I have no doubt about that. She doesn't even know what the
Bush Doctrine is. In the meantime, refuse to engage in any conversation
about her if you want to get Obama elected.
