SOCIAL: professional photographers on list?

Hey are there any professional photographers out there on this list  
that could met out some advice?  My brother-in-law is has the  
possibility of doing some professional photographic work and is trying  
to get the right gear to take advantage of this opportunity that's  
come his way.  He's narrowed down his decision to 2 different Canon  
camera bodies and he's trying to decide on a couple of lens too.

If there's anybody who has any knowledge that they could impart to  
him, email me directly and I'll hook you all up.  Probably all that's  
needed is one phone call or a couple of emails exchanged.
