Hi,
Thanks for all of your suggestions.  I just got one more request for 'the biggest internet cafe' in the city and a busy restaurant/  Any ideas?

Hello,
I am on a very last minute scout for a one hour documentary for the BBC.  They are looking for a laser machine, a place to have a laser light show and a large space to put together a solar system.  I only have tomorrow to scout.  I already have calls into the Academy of Sciences, The Exploratorium, The Chabot Center and the deYoung.  I'd love to find some interesting interior spaces that show that it's the Bay Area if anyone has any ideas. I'll cut and paste what they sent me below.
Cheers!

Great to talk to you just now. As discussed we agreed  for Alex to drive us around San Francisco on Mon 4 Jan and for you to assist us with our location search for a laser light show and an interior location to set up the solar
system scale model. The locations we need are as follows: LASER LIGHT SHOW - the set up they need is (black below from my AP)We
are coming out to do some filming in the San Fran area in early January - including a tour of the facilities at NIF. But we are now looking to set up another sequence with lasers that will be visual and fun - but also demonstrate how a laser works and how powerful it is. What I had in mind is something like this:1) a dramatic and visual scene with lots of different coloured laser beams aiming around the room (perhaps in a darkened space)2) a demonstration of laser beams doing impressive things to show their power (for instance, I know that laser light can be used to pop balloons or light a match or cut through metal or burn wood - so it would be great to set up an experiment to do one of these things). In all cases, we would want our presenter in the room experiencing all of this - with one of your experts on hand to set up these demonstrations and explain on camera to our presenter how a laser works. Above all, what we really want is for the sequence
(which will open the film) to look really cool and visual.Re dates, we're looking at the morning of January Tues 5th or Wed 6th - and I imagine the sequence might take 2-3 hours to achieve. My colleagues have already
managed to find some locations and I attach a list. Please can you negotiate with the laser guys to get us the best possible deal. Basically the sequence would take us 3 hours in a morning. We could potentially offer them a credit, although this can't be guaranteed. See list attached.SOLAR SYSTEM SCALE MODEL LOCATIONSee link explaining what we'd like to achieve (earth peppercorn scale model). We're basically looking for a very large interior location, like an aircraft hanger, massive sports hall, arena, warehouse. Ideally would be great if we had a second level we could film from
 - looking down would be great (otherwise we'll need to use a jib). As for the signs indicating Earth, Jupiter, etc we really just need the stands - ideally wooden, plastic or metal that we can attach a printed sign (which we can do on computer or using marker pen). So we just need the stands (not the signs made for us).  If we set up the entire solar system we would need a location that is1000yards = 914.4m = 3000ft For part of the model:40 yards = 36.5m = 120ft Basically in the model (on link) 1 pace = 1 yard so the size of the model then is as follows:Sun to Mercury = 10 pacesMercury to Venus = 9 pacesVenus to Earth = 7 pacesEarth to Mars = 14 pacesMars to Jupiter = 95 paces (may just take model to Jupiter)Jupiter to Saturn = 112 pacesSaturn to Uranus = 249 pacesUranus to Neptune = 281 pacesNeptune to Pluto = 242 paces I hope that makes sense.   Also- Would you know of somewhere where you could print out a map of the universe for us? So
it would be rather large and laminated. We would be able to send you a JPEG.
