Bookkeeper (part time)

Walk San Francisco and Livable City are looking for a motivated, talented individual to support our financial practices on a part-time basis. The Bookkeeper will perform day-to-day accounting operations for two small and growing non-profit organizations. The Bookkeeper will also prepare month-end close-out functions as well as preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports.

This is a great opportunity to build on an existing background in accounting, non-profit administration or finance and work with talented and collegial staff and volunteers who are advocating for better streets and a better city. The ability to communicate well with staff and maintain confidential information is a must. Work is performed on site.

The Bookkeeper will start as soon as possible and will work 4-8 hours/week. Walk San Francisco and Livable City are affiliate organizations in adjoining offices and will share the position; the Bookkeeper will report directly to the Executive Director of each organization.

Primary job responsibilities include:

Accounts Payable: Enter and code incoming bills and overhead costs. Write checks and make electronic payments. Enter credit card and cash expenses. Maintain detailed records of all payments and ensure timely and accurate payment of bills.
Accounts Receivable: Process cash, check, and credit card receipts. Enter payments and make deposits. Prepare and send invoices in collaboration with staff.
Records and reports: Maintain accounting files and archives. Help assign and track allocations. Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial reports for executive directors, program managers, and boards of directors.
Month-end functions: Reconcile bank accounts and run monthly close-out reports for both nonprofits including several distinct funds. Make all necessary journal entries.
Quarterly and year-end: prepare quarterly worker’s compensation returns, support budgeting, and assist accountants in compiling information for tax returns.
Position Requirements

Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
At least 2 years nonprofit bookkeeping experience using QuickBooks, including functional allocation of expenses.
Computer-literate with Internet savvy and the ability to pick up software systems quickly. Extensive experience in using MS Excel and MS Word, databases, and Macintosh computers.
Punctual, reliable, and accountable. Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
Excellent trouble-shooting and problem-solving capabilities and a can-do attitude. Able to analyze financial information and communicate it effectively.
Excellent oral and written skills in communicating accounting needs and information to staff and clarity and courtesy in occasional communications with members, donors, and vendors.
Ready and able to help two growing, open, team-oriented offices to build better, scalable accounting practices.
Walk San Francisco and Livable City offer the opportunity to support mission-driven work in a collegial environment at a central location. Pay is commensurate with experience. We are seeking someone to start in May. Position is open until filled.
