Clinical Professor Guy Micco, M.D. (Co-Director of the UCB Center for Medicine,
the Humanities and Law, and Director of the UCB Center on Aging) and Gretchen
Case, PhD (Performance Studies) will discuss using theatrical techniques to
connect medical students to their local communities, and will demonstrate those
techniques with a cast of UCB grad and advanced undergrad students from the
Joint Medical Program, TDPS, and the School of Optometry, and residents of the
Salem Lutheran Retirement Community in Oakland. Performances will include a
selection of Cicero’s “de <span class=SpellE>Senectute</span>”
(<i><span style='font-style:italic'>An Essay on Old Age</span></i>) adapted
into a conversation between older and younger performers and a selection of poems
that raise issues surrounding age and aging.<br>
