I figured this wouldn't last - it costs something to change currencies.</div><div>Then sometime around 1999 or 2000, we got a letter from our credit union that Visa International was instituting a worldwide currency exchange fee, which they would pass along to us.</div><div>my credit union is currently passing along a 1% fee, which while annoying, is still way better than travelers checks or money changers.</div><div>If 1% is less than you pay now, maybe you should join one of the local outfits. We've been with Seattle Telco for about 16 years now.
