And on top of that I really really love the work of A.R. Rahman (best songs & best score). I read an article recently that kind of nails his popularity in India - they said he is a cross between Michael Jackson & John Williams. He's just a fantastic composer and it is nice his fame is growing in the West (I just found out that he did the score for the British "Lord of the Rings" musical :-) )....

Anyway - the reason for this email is to say: though I think the songs of his from "Slumdog" are good, they are far from his best work. I can't honestly say I know much of his work (my exposures is in dribs and drabs - if any of you know more PLEASE DO TELL) - but here are 3 songs that I think are much better than the "Slumdog" ones:

From the film "Lagaan"
Mitwa:
http://deeptrouble.com/temp/Mitwa.m4a - THOSE of you who have downloaded my birthday compilation* already have this

"Chale Chalo":
http://deeptrouble.com/temp/ChaleChalo.m4a

from the film "Jodhaa Akhbar"
"Khwaja Mere Kwaja"
http://deeptrouble.com/temp/03%20Khwaja%20Mere%20Khwaja.m4a

Jai Ho!
'deep

*For those of you who haven't grabbed my birthday compilation, the compilation is here:

http://www.deeptrouble.com/linernotesformy30s.zip

and the write up is here:
http://www.deeptrouble.com/2009/01/13/linernotes/
(note if you click on the LAST PERIOD in the liner notes "I like the current title." - you will get the above link)

----------------------------------
Amandeep Jawa
----------------------------------
deep AT deeptrouble DOT com
937 Valencia St.
San Francisco, CA 94110-2320

personal: http://www.deeptrouble.com
political: http://www.sflcv.org
