Dear Friends:

I know that you all have tons going on this holiday season, and probably a million requests to turn out for such-and-such an event. I just wanted to let you know about something that I've been working very hard for awhile now, that I'm finally getting to see published.

It's a book called Such A Bittersweet Day: Marriage Equality in the Wake of Prop 8, and I've poured a lot of myself into ensuring it sees the light of day over the past year and a half.

It's a collection of beautiful black and white photos by local civil rights photographer Geoffrey King, and oral histories based off interviews I did with various people in the queer community over the past year and a half. Part of the goal was to showcase the many different voices, perspectives and backgrounds of the LGBT community, ones that were perhaps not shown during the NO on 8 campaign. The project has been important to me for a lot of reasons, but that was definitely huge for me.

Also, neither Geoff nor I are making any money off the sale of the book. 100% of net proceeds are going to LGBT civil rights groups, starting with the Transgender Law Center and AIDS Legal Services, in an attempt to show an expanded vision of the struggle for LGBT civil rights, one in which marriage equality is only a piece of the larger fight.

I hope you can join me this Thursday evening, 6:00-9:00pm at Trigger in San Francisco's Castro District for the launch of the book. You can now purchase the book online at : http://suchabittersweetday.com/

The book is being published locally by Blurb, and we are proud to support a local business in San Francisco.

Hope to see you out this Thursday, and please forward to anyone you think might be interested in the book project. I will only say this once, because it sounds grody, but: it makes a great holiday gift! (: It does!

Also grody, but necessary: Facebook invite and Fan Page: http://www.facebook.com/search/?q=Such+a+bittersweet+day&init=quick#/event.php?eid=173058721393&ref=ts
