Also keep in mind that advisers may be fee-based (good - you're paying for their time and expertise, like a lawyer or accountant) or paid on commission (bad - for the reasons Manish outlined).<br><br>When I was 25, I read Personal Finance For Dummies (I worked for the Dummies company at the time) and it was an excellent way to learn a lot more about managing my own finances.<br>
