SOCIAL: I need an iphone

I have lots and lots to say about these phones - and have spent lost of time thinking and working with them. I don't however have lots of time to write my thoughts today - but here is the snapshot version:
1) Susan - get an iPhone. Get the best iPhone you feel like spending the money on. I recommend the new one because it is sooo much better than the previous ones & the video calling alone is worth the price. Since you will be buying a plan the only question is $100 that big of an issue. If it is (understandably) get the older iphone 3GS - still an amazing phone & now the 2nd best phone on the market.
2) On AT&T coverage and general shittyness. I fear it is true. AT&T is a real problem, and the only asterisk I put beside my recommendation of the iPhone. The choice then comes down to iPhone + AT&T drawbacks against Android + Verizon or Palm Pre + Verizon/Sprint. Given how annoying and fiddly Android still is I can't recommend it to anyone who is not a computer-hackery type (Do you like installing upgrades and update son your computer to get the latest and greatest functionality? Do you like fiddling with settings? If so you may well prefer Android.) Erin - If I was dead set against getting an iPhone for AT&T reasons, I'd get a Palm Pre - that is a nicer elegant phone with good UI for normal people. Now that HP bought Palm, it is not going anywhere.
There is reason to believe the AT&T situation will start improving soon. But who knows whether that is true other than to pray. (Steve Jobs has been fielding questions about this and has stated this plainly - so I do tend to believe it)
3) On the app front, none of the other phones has anywhere close to the kind of things you can do with this device as the iPhone - by far.
4) At the end of the day, I'll bet money that you'll wish you had an iPhone given where these things are and where they are going. The big caveat comes down to AT&T coverage issues, and even with that I couldn't love my iPhone more, or be more unimpressed with Droid. Palm is pretty good.*

* And note I don't say that because I work at Apple. It is the other way around.

Otherwise, I bet some folks on SOCIAL are going to upgrade to the new version, and may have already contacted you accordingly about selling you their current phone.

The iPhone IS great for checking email and web browsing and has an incredible app library...

So, there's a fancy new version out there that I am intrigued by, though I suspect it is a lot more phone than I need. I thought I'd ask folks on this list about it (the good, bad, why the version introduced today is better than the previous ones) and also see if one of you is planning on upgrading and selling your current iphone for a decent price.
