SOCIAL: iPhone GPS App for Hiking?

Hey Folks -

Kimberly & I are headed to Yosemite this weekend & thought it would be useful to have a GPS app to note K's last known location before she gets ACCIDENTALLY eaten by a bear.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a good GPS app for the iphone for hiking?  A quick glance at the App Store suggests two off the bat "Trails - GPS Tracker" & "GPS Kit" - does anyone have any experience with these or others?

I assume the big issues are do they work well off the cell network (I presume you just predownload all your maps) & how much battery power I can squeeze off my iPhone (and auxiliary battery.)
